75 reception pupils from Short Wood Primary school in Wellington visited the site of our new ShireLiving extra care scheme Oakwood in Wellingtion, Telford this week. The reception pupils aged five, have been studying the poem ‘The house that Jack built ‘and the visit offered them the perfect opportunity to see how new homes, like our 63 apartments are built. As well as offering an insight into the different construction jobs available the group learnt about the importance of health and safety, each being issued with high visibility vests and hard hats before entering the site.
Once back at school the children will be continuing the project by creating exciting drawings about their visit. A selection of the finished artwork will then be featured in a mural and painted onto the hoarding boards surrounding the site.
Assistant Project Manager, Jane Kind said; “It’s been a very successful visit. The children have been very interested in how new homes are built and I’ve already spied a few potential ideas for our hoarding artwork. We’re looking forward to seeing the results.”
The mural will be completed later this summer with Oakwood set to welcome its first residents in spring 2016.
