When we were looking for photographs to illustrate our ShireLiving website, we thought it would be a nice idea to ask our tenants to take part. It’s possible to buy images from stock photography sites but they often look posed and air brushed and that’s not the feel we wanted. We wanted to capture informal moments with real people so we looked around for a photographer who could do that. Phil Barrett of PB Artworks was recommended to us. Phil has a reputation for putting people at ease and getting the most from any situation from weddings to classrooms.

The next thing we needed was a suitable location. Parkwood in Telford was the first extra care scheme we built so what better place to use to illustrate extra care living.
We asked Parkwood tenants and friends from other schemes to join us for a day with the promise of a buffet lunch thrown in. We set up a friendly boccia tournament in the spacious lounge. Boccia is a form of indoor bowls that features in the Paralympic games. The players are seated which makes boccia a very inclusive game. The pool table and Wii in the games room next door were put to good use as well. Trying to capture every aspect of extra care living in a few short hours isn’t easy but we hope we’ve provided a snap shot that illustrates the independence that residents enjoy along with the social life.
Day two of the photo shoot took place in the kitchens at The Wrekin Housing Trust’s Telford HQ. Jacob Perry is Regional Catering Manager and he certainly pulled out all the stops to help us illustrate the quality of food that will be on offer.
So, a big thank you to everyone who took part, we hope you like the results.
