Energy MOTs deliver £8,500 boost for Telford retirement living residents

Residents at a retirement living scheme in Telford are feeling the benefit of more money staying in their pockets and running their homes more efficiently, after Housing Plus Group’s (HPG) Energy Advice team carried out tailored energy MOTs.

The team visited Newfield Court to deliver the one-to-one support session for residents to help reduce their energy bills, provide low-cost energy-saving measures, as well as share practical advice.

As a result of the targeted support, 13 residents are now better off by a combined total of just shy of £8,500.

As part of the energy MOTs, HPG’s Energy Advisors provide impartial advice to residents, as well as instal measures such as LED bulbs, power down devices, reflective radiator foils and more.

The MOTs are just one way the Money Matters team supports older residents, many of whom are on fixed incomes and can be particularly affected by rising living costs.

HPG’s dedicated Energy Advice service is funded by the Cadent Foundation, who aim to help tenants across Shropshire, Staffordshire, and Telford & Wrekin manage energy bills through personalised advice, energy-saving items, and debt support.

Chloe Meredith, Energy Advisor at HPG, said: “Our energy MOTs are all about giving residents simple, practical support that makes a real difference.

“Delivering them face-to-face within the scheme meant that we as a team could offer clear, accessible advice in a trusted and familiar environment, and on this occasion, we were pleased to achieve an incredible combined total of almost £8,500 in positive financial outcomes for residents.

“Securing such a large amount at just one of our schemes shows just how impactful this approach is.”

Ranjit Blythe, Managing Director of the Cadent Foundation, said: “We’re proud to support this vital work. Seeing residents at Newfield Court become almost £8,500 collectively better off through energy MOTs shows the positive impact this programme is making on a local level. A huge well done to colleagues at Housing Plus Group for their ongoing hard work.”
