Housing Plus Group staff recognised at national awards for outstanding care

Four members of staff from Choices, part of Housing Plus Group, were recognised at this year’s National Learning Disability & Autism Awards, with two receiving special honours.

The awards celebrate excellence in the support of people with learning disabilities and autism, and this year four colleagues from residential care homes in Newcastle were shortlisted as finalists.

Sharon Coxon, Registered Care Manager, won the Supporting Older People with Learning Disability Award, while Chiamaka Eze, Support Worker, was Highly Commended in the Supporting People with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities Award.

Also shortlisted were Linda Wright, in the Outstanding Contribution Award category, and Zoe Rossi, in the Frontline Leader Award category.

Sharon, who has worked in care for nearly 28 years, said:

“Supporting people to live a really good life, to see them smiling, healthy, and happy is the best part of the job. We’re there through the highs and the challenges, and it’s a privilege to be part of that. I’ve always loved care, and I’ll be working in this sector until I retire.”

Chiamaka added:

“What I love about my job is that it’s all about service. When someone makes progress or does something new, it’s so rewarding to know I was part of that moment. It’s not always easy, but it’s one of the most fulfilling jobs out there.”

Clair Skelton, Head of Care Operations, said:

“We’re proud to see our colleagues recognised at a national level. These nominations reflect the commitment and compassion our teams bring to their roles every day. Whether they’re finalists or not, every member of our care and support staff plays a vital role in making a difference to people’s lives.”
