Local charities boosted as surplus stock finds new homes
Charities and organisations from across the region have received a welcome boost following the recent closure of a reuse and household goods retailer.
Following the closure of its Wrekin Reviive stores, Housing Plus Group (HPG) offered its remaining stock – including furniture, refurbished items, white goods, and other items to a number of charity shops and organisations to ensure that valuable goods continued to benefit local people rather than go to waste.
Local charities that have benefitted from the items included a number in and around the Shrewsbury area, including the British Heart Foundation, Little Stars Nursery, Hope House, Severn Hospice, the Rural Charity, and Sleap Cat Rescue, as well as those in North Shropshire including the Shropshire Cycle Hub in Oswestry and Ellesmere League of Friends charity shop.
James Cooper, Operational Services Manager at Housing Plus Group said that passing on the surplus items was an important way to ensure that the organisation’s work and impact continues to benefit the community.
He said: “We wanted to make sure that the stock we had left from Reviive continued to serve a purpose and support local causes, and in turn, local people.
“Working with local charity shops means these items will still reach those that need them, while also helping the charities generate some funds, as well as ensuring that good quality items don’t end up in landfill.”
Some of the items that were distributed included a baby change unit to Little Stars Nursery, while the British Heart Foundation in Shrewsbury received some beds, white goods, electrical appliances and furniture.
Richard Roe, Regional Director at British Heart Foundation, added: “We’re incredibly grateful to Housing Plus Group for their generous donation. This means good quality items can continue to make a real difference to people here in Shrewsbury, while also helping to reduce waste.
“The donations we’ve received will support the vital work of our shops and help us continue raising funds for lifesaving research.”
