Work has started our new ShireLiving extra care scheme, off Ellesmere Road in Shrewsbury. The £10 million pound project , which has received grant funding of £2,411,550 from the Homes and Communities agency, will provide 69 self-contained apartments for the over 55s. The development will also house additional facilities including a residents’ lounge, hobbies room, pamper bathroom, and a café which will be open to the general public.
The apartments have been especially designed with our increasing ageing population in mind, meaning residents can live independently while benefiting from a friendly support team onsite 24 hours a day. The onsite team will also deliver flexible care and support services.
Construction of the new scheme will be completed in early 2017 and will create over 150 jobs including nine apprentice opportunities, generating more than £24 million into the economy. Once completed its one and two bedroom apartments will be let affordably to local people over the age of 55.
Project manager, Matt Winn said: “There is a real need for quality housing designed for older people and we’re pleased to be following the success of our open ShireLiving schemes in Staffordshire by developing across Shropshire.”
